"Building a Church Through Outreach"
Seek a Man ELCOG 4/27/08 Text: Jeremiah 5:1 This morning I want to seek a man or a woman who does justice and seeks truth. This morning God is seeking such a man. He sought this type person in the streets of Jerusalem during the days of Jeremiah and he is seeking for this type of person today. It is important that we have the characteristics that He is looking for. He is looking for a man or a woman that will be just and will treat people with justice. God values justice. Psa. 82:3 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Psa. 82:4 4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
God is seeking someone that will treat people right. He is looking for someone who will reach the afflicted and the needy. He is looking for someone to deliver the poor and to rid them from the hand of the wicked. There are people in our community that are hurting. People that are in a very needy situation and need a church of justice: a church that will treat the poor as fair as they do the rich, a church that will treat the sick as fair as the well. God will bless the man he finds executing justice. Prov. 21:3 3To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
The bible is clear. Justice is better than sacrifice. The bible also says that obedience is better than sacrifice. God is looking for a man that will obey his word and administer justice. Isa. 56:1 1Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.
Isa. 56:2 2Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
It is important that we look at these verses because the man that god finds in justice is a blessed man. We are living in a society that you can hear the prosperity preacher on every channel. We have teachers telling us how to have a full and complete life. But it is even more simple than that. Let God find you doing justice. He seeks a man. He seeks a man that will seek truth. John 8:32 32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. We all remember this verse. God has a truth that liberates. He has a truth that breaks the bonds of evil. We are called to deliver and we must equip ourselves with His truth. It is not in our own ability to set the captive spirit free, but Gods truth is. Let us be truth seekers. Let us be people that will hunger and thirst for righteousness. God is seeking real people that are truth seekers. Psa. 91:4 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Psa. 91:5 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Psa. 91:6 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A man who lives in truth will not be afraid of the spirits by night or the attacks during the day. We will not be afraid of the future because His truth will establish us. We must be a church that will be built on the truth of Gods word. You must be believers who will build your house on the rock of Gods word. God is seeking you! 3 John 1:3 3For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
3 John 1:4 4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
Listen to Pastor John. I have no greater joy than to hear that my church people walk in truth. Why? Because God is looking for truth seekers. And If God finds you your life will be full of His joy and His peace. Lets remember one more time in the bible that God sought righteous people.
Genesis 18:22-33 God sought righteous people in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah to spare his punishment, but none could be found. God seeks righteous people today to stand in the Gap of the unrighteous. As in the days of Abraham and Jeremiah God is seeking righteous men that will stand in the gap and build a hedge for the lost. He is seeking people that will care enough for the lost to defend them. I want you to think about something for a minute Someone defended you. Someone called your name and stood in the gap for you. We need you to do the same thing. Gods mercy is extended to you so that you can extend it to someone else. 1 Pet. 1:3 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1 Pet. 1:4 4To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
1 Pet. 1:5 5Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Gods mercy and His grace are still reaching for you. His grace is still sufficient for you. His favor is still available to you. If youre lost He is seeking you. If you are a worshipper He is seeking you. You are a well sought after commodity. Will you be found administering justice and seeking truth? Will you be found standing in the gap for someone who needs your assistance? God needs you!
