Jesus the Rock

2 Sam 22:1-9, 32-38, 47-48
Deut. 32:4
4He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
Tonight I want to begin a message that I may or may not be able to finish. I want us to look at a point of scripture that should be very encouraging. I want to preach on the subject, "Jesus the Rock". There are 7 different descriptions of Jesus the Rock that I want to look at tonight. But first, I want to look into the great details of 2 Sam 22. There are so many preaching points in this chapter. Let’s read chapter 22 out of the "New Living translation".

1. Jesus is the Rock of Supply:
Ex. 17:6
6Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Num. 20:10
10And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
Num. 20:11
11And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
Neh. 9:15
15And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them.
2. Rock of Salvation:
Deut. 32:15
15But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
Psa. 89:26
26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
3. Rock of Escape:
1 Sam. 23:28
28Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth. (the rock of Escape)
4. Rock of Refuge:
Psa. 94:22
22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.
Psa. 46:1
1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psa. 46:2
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Psa. 46:3
3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.

5. Rock of Strength:
Isa. 17:10
10Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
Psa. 62:7
7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
6. Rock of Foundation:
Matt. 7:24
24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Matt. 7:25
25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Matt. 16:18
18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
7. Rock of Offence:
Rom. 9:33
33As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
1 Pet. 2:8
8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
Jesus is your Rock. Tonight you need to run to Him. You need to trust Him and you need to all the rock to meet your need. If you don’t bow to the rock; you will stumble over the rock. God is your steady foundation and you will prosper because of the Rock!
